Weekend Recap

 This past weekend we set up a booth at the Art Star Craft Bazaar. It was am amazing event, with tons of people (despite the threat of rain). It was so great to meet everyone and to talk about the Sculpture Gym with you all!

Trenton Avenue Arts Festival/Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby 

Come by for tours of the space, a BBQ when the derby is going by, or visit our booth at the Trenton Avenue Arts Fest from 12-5pm!

We have a Call for Artists for our June Exhibition, Process Show: CASTING

And we have tons of great workshops and classes coming up for May and June!

If you are an artist, crafter or maker of things and are thinking of applying, the deadline is March 5th, so apply now! This event draws a huge crowd and is in a great location along the river. Weekend Recap!

 

I had a great time at the Art Star Craft Bazaar and want to extend a huge thanks to Terri, Brynn, Jenny and Justin for all the help! It was so great to meet everyone and to talk about the space. Seeing people get excited about what we are doing has been the best part of this whole journey for me so this weekend was especially great. Here are some photos from the weekend...

Both days included waking Olivia up too early to load her into "Daddy's truck", the box truck Justin uses for work, because our car has been in the shop since Friday.

We had a great view at the top and were close to the music which was nice (except for that one guy who sang "Like a Prayer" and a whole bunch of strange other things that I still don't quite understand...)

This Weekend! Happy hours, ASE, and Art Star!

I've heard its going to be beautiful out this weekend so I am very excited to get out to promote PSG at the Art Star Craft Bazaar on Saturday and Sunday!!! We'll be in booth #5 up at the top of the stairs (near the food, yes!) so come check us out! We'll be doing family friendly demos in clay sculpting, making press molds and casting both days and we'll have Philadelphia Sculpture Gym T-shirts, Totebags, Mugs and Memberships for sale! So come on out to the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing (On Delaware Ave between Walnut and Chestnut Streets). Get something nice for your momma!

And tonight there is a Happy Hour happening at Philadelphia Woodworks starting at 5pm. $5 open bar and members of lots of the maker collectives in the city, like our friends at The Hacktory, NextFab Studios and Hive 76) will be there (We are hoping to be there but are dealing with a possible transmission issue at the moment and hope to get it fixed in time...!)

And then there is the yearly tradition of going to PAFA's Annual Student Exhibition (the ASE). Justin, Gus, Olivia and I will be heading over to see that. The show is always pretty amazing and of course its great to continue to see the work coming out of the school you graduated from (Justin is the PAFA grad... I went to Moore and saw their student show in April, which was also great!) These events are exactly what we needed after lots of late nights at the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym! Tonight is First Friday! I'll have some tiny chickens and a few squirrels over at Art in the Age for the Peg and Awl: Edible Backyards show!

Wow. May is going to be a very busy month in Philly in terms of craft fairs and events! I just got this email about a Greensgrow Farms Spring Craft Bazaar on May 5th. Also remember to check out the Art Star Craft Bazaar on May 12/13th and the Trenton Avenue Arts Fest/Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby on May 19th. We'll be there doing demos and telling everyone about the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym. Every year this event draws a huge crowd and we are very excited to be a part of it this year!

The Art Star Craft Bazaar is a juried arts & crafts retail show. We are primarily looking for artists & crafters who create handmade, original work. However, we are open to products that are designed by the artist & made in small quantities. All mediums are welcome. The event is held outdoors & each participant will be provided with a 10’ x 10’ space. Tables, chairs, tents & parking passes will be available to rent/purchase. Participants are required to bring everything else that is needed for set up & display.

Up to two artists may share one 10’ x 10’ space, but must apply separately. When submitting your application you will have the option to write in the name of who you’d like to share a space with. We will pair you up with that person if they are also accepted. If they are not accepted, you are welcome to your own space or we will try to pair you up with another accepted artist.

Location: The Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, which is along Columbus Blvd, between Walnut & Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia, PA.

Dates: Saturday & Sunday, May 12th & 13th, from 11-6pm
