Huge thanks to everyone who came to PSG this weekend...to volunteer (Josh, I'm lookin' at you...), to take a class, or to come for the wonderful (yet chilly) sculptor gathering/potluck that was organized by Gail Ferretti. It was so great to meet everyone! As always, the interest and excitement that everyone has shown the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym is so amazing. Thanks so much for the amazing support!

Also, as a sidebar, sorry things have been so sporadic here on the blog. I have been teaching 5 days a week for the past few weeks so my already crazy life has gotten a bit crazier for now! Back to "normal" soon!

July Potluck/Info Session!

The Philadelphia Sculpture Gym potlucks are back! We had a 2 month hiatus because May was packed and June was over in an instant, but we're bringing it back in July. Come check out the progress on the space and meet fellow sculptors and makers of things while eating good food and drinking beer! You'll also get to see the Casting show before it comes down. Good times all around.
So save the date and we hope to see you on Saturday, July 28th! Just bring some food or drink to share! Kids are welcome so feel free to bring the whole fam (just don't have them wear anything too fancy...it still is a warehouse!)

Weekend Recap!

First a HUGE thanks to everyone who helped out this weekend (Seren, Molly, Patrick, Gus, and Jenny! We love you guys!) and another thanks to everyone who came to the potluck!!

And there's a bit of a back track here are we've been a bit busy...

On Thursday Justin, Terri, Olivia and I headed over to the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym to meet a photographer. Olivia may not make it into any of the finished photos because she was not havin' it.

Don't let this cute face fool you! She was a screamin', cryin' mess, poor kid.

Thursday night we headed to the NextFab 2 preview party. We got to see their new space, check out the show and meet new people. (I spent a good part of the evening talking about raising chickens which was sooooo exciting. I've been dying to get some...Justin on the other hand...not so much.) Congrats guys! We can't wait to see the finished space!

On Friday Olivia and I stopped by Trinity Framing to see the Peg and Awl window display and we happened to meet a cat named Early that had 5 extra toes...this picture does not fully do this cat's toes justice. I, of course, forgot to take any photos of the window display, but it's great and I suggest you head down to 701 South 3rd Street for a look!

I spent Saturday and Sunday divided between painting in the Sculpture Gym and running errands with O'Rae (giant Home Depot shopping trip with a 2.5 year old...yikes.) The potluck was great though chasing O'Rae around left less time for eating food than I liked...I did manage to snag some apple pie though!

Look at all that light coming in the back now...Love it!

Justin and I had such a great time at the potluck on Saturday! Thanks to everyone who came! It was exciting to meet the people who I've been emailing with and to talk to everyone about the space AND to eat such great food (Can we talk about the Car Bomb cupcakes? They were insanely amazing...) I always feel like its such a whirlwind but I really had a great time. I know some people left before I got a chance to say goodbye, so I just want to say it was so amazing to have everyone and we really appreciate the support you all have shown so far. THANK YOU!
(And next time we promise that there will be more lights...and chairs!)

3rd Potluck/Info Session - Saturday, March 24th!

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday night for the potluck! It was great to meet everyone and show you all the future home of the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym (though all the kids seemed quite at home already, no?) Can you believe I did not take a single photo? Next time, promise! And speaking of next time...now that we have the space, we're making the potlucks a monthly thing, so save the date for the next one - Saturday March 24th!

Weekends: Past and Upcoming

We had a great weekend and its taken until now (Wednesday) to have a second to recap...

On Friday, we started at PAFA's Annual Student Exhibition. It was a really good show with lots of amazing work. Unfortunately I didn't get many good photos (cell phone cameras are just real camera wanna-be's).

This piece by Brendan Keen was pretty great. According to the title, it was made from trash from the convention center... These photos do it no justice. It's beautiful.

Another bunch of good sculpture that I got atleast 1 photo of was by Blaise Goldman. He had a number of nice figures that were pretty interesting. After speaking with him I found out that he worked for a summer with Javier Marin, whose work I think is fabulous.

After the ASE, we headed over to Pterodactyl to check out To-Day is Another Day, Make Art (Art in the Great Recession), an exhibition curated by Steven Earl Weber. The exhibition included work by Leroy Johnson, Doug Herren, Abbey Gates, Daniel Petraitis, Steven Earl Weber, Roger Petersen, Jerry Kaba, Stephen Kent and Ira Upin. Stop by to check it out! And pencil in the closing reception, which is Saturday June 25th 8pm-12am.

The rest of the weekend was filled with looking at buildings for the future sculpture gym (more on that soon), the Art Star Craft Bazaar (which was great despite a bit of rain), and our sculptor potluck that happened on Sunday. The potluck was great and a big thanks to everyone who came... aside from the good things that showed up to eat and drink, my favorite moment was when we were all sitting around, troubleshooting technical issues in sculpture... Justin and I both felt that it was exactly why we wanted to get people together...to share ideas and offer insights and suggestions to one another. Sculpture is hard enough already, so its nice to have some people around to help out from time to time! We plan to do another potluck in the fall which I'm already looking forward to. I'll be sure to post the details here.

And upcoming THIS weekend, on Saturday May 21st, is the Trenton Avenue Arts Festival, which Justin and I are extremely busy getting ready for...! I'll post a full list of all our planned excitement tomorrow...!
